Just popping in to say hello!:) Happy Friday!
I wanted to offer a little idea for those of you (who like me) are finding that your Christmas poinsettia is beginning to lose some life…looking a little on the brown and crispy side, or maybe just a little sparse.
I had never really thought of this until this year, but what I did was just cut off the individual flowers (the ones that still look lively) and place them in water. This will allow you to continue enjoying your poinsettia a little longer and with new display options (I am not actually sure how long this method will preserve it, but I thought it was worth a try:))…
I placed my cut flowers in different sized canning jars and placed them in various places around our home…. some on the coffee table, a couple hanging on our shutter mug rack, and a few of the baby flowers on our kitchen window sill. The greenish/whitish color just added the perfect hint of winter freshness when things were beginning to look a little drab.
Inside our coffee table toolbox: the greens were definitely needing to go… talk about crispy… so they were replaced with a couple fresh cut poinsettia flower…
ps. this may sound a little weird, but you can’t judge until you try it!:) I made my granola recipe today and added a few dashes of cayenne pepper, and it was actually really good… spicy and sweet!:) If you like a little spice, I really think you will enjoy this!:)

I love this idea Melissa! It really does add some life to your home…And by the way, I think adding cayenne pepper is awesome:) Great idea:) Have a wonderful weekend!!
Thanks Olivia!:) I am enjoying the freshness it brings to our home!:) and I am glad I have a fellow cayenne pepper fan!:)
Pretty!
A tip for the poinsettias: sear the cut end of their stems over a flame (like a lighter or candle) to keep the milky-white sap from coming out and help them live longer in a vase. They are supposed to last for a ridiculously long time when prepared for a cut arrangement this way. :)
THANK YOU for the tip! I never would have even thought of something like that…I am totally going to try this!:)
White poinsettias are my absolute favorite. What a great idea to cut them up and use them in a vase when the plant starts to fade. Your arrangements look beautiful.
Susan
