Our latest project, besides re-upholstering a chair, has been making an antique sign. We knew we wanted the sign to look antique, and we happened to see a tutorial created by Miss Mustard Seed on her blog (she does an excellent job giving details on how to make the sign), and decided we wanted to do something similar for our home. We used different paint colors then she did, and cut out letter stencils instead of using graphite transfer paper, but otherwise pretty much stuck to the tutorial. We had an extra piece of wood from the mantle shelf Jesse made for me, and it was the perfect size for our sign. We decided on colors (and by decided I mean, the sign was painted a few different colors before we stuck with our final choice:)), which ended up being taupe for the background with white lettering and a warm gray color for the shadowing on the letters. We also had to decide what we wanted our sign to say…
“GATHER”…. after throwing around different words, we decided on this one. Gathering… what better way to share, show love to others, than to bring them into our home and gather over food, good conversation, etc.
We tried the sign a few different places (which is why the pictures below show the sign on our buffet, but decided to put it in our kitchen above the cabinets!:)
Here are a few photos of our finished sign:) It was a fun project for Jesse and I to do together!
Have a wonderful Monday!:)

This is so beautiful Melissa! You both did such a great job making it look antique. I like your word-of-choice:)
Thank you! We were really happy with how it turned out!:)
Very nice :) It does have the patina of something truly old.
yes.. LOVE the patina look/feel!:)
It looks like a sign from the early 1900s. It is beautiful. Excellent job!
