I have been meaning to share some photos of the most recent addition to our home… a kitchen island that my husband, Jesse, built! I absolutely love the way it turned out!:) Jesse pretty much always has a building project he is either working on or planning for, which is so fun for me. He enjoys building and I enjoy what he makes, so it works pretty well!:)
What is super exciting to me about this piece is that the top is made from local barn wood. Jesse collected the wood from the barn ruins, sanded it down, and joined the beams to create the top surface of the island. I love the natural look it provides and the little imperfections, cracks, and rusty nail heads reveal the age of the wood. I really think these marks give such character.
It has a lot of extra storage space too, which has been wonderful. I really appreciate when pieces are beautiful and functional!
The metal shelf supports were from Hobby Lobby, and painted with the Grainsack Milk Paint as well. I think we will be distressing those very soon.
We were given the stools and painted them with Miss Mustard Seed Lucketts Green Milk Paint.
And if you are wondering where that beautiful bowl came from… it is an Arryn Vogan Pottery Original! Its beautiful, and it is so big… perfect for a fruit bowl or to serve a large salad!
Have a wonderful day!:)
